My first endorsement: DC for Democracy

I declared my candidacy for shadow senator five weeks ago today, and now, I’m thrilled to announce my first endorsement!

DC for Democracy, aka DC4D, is one of the most active and influential progressive activism organizations in the city. They held their 2018 endorsement vote in February but offered a reprise vote for shadow senator last night so members could hear from both candidates in a newly-contested race. And it was my first public speech as a candidate: my opponent and I both shared 3-minute briefings on our approaches, then stepped out while members could discuss us as candidates.

The bar is high. DC for Democracy will only endorse candidates who win at least 2/3 of votes.

I’m honestly overwhelmed to share that I won 83% of the vote, and DC4D’s endorsement for my 2018 campaign.

There are nine weeks until early voting starts. I’m going to need every day and every supporter I can do win this race. I’m so glad now to have the support of DC for Democracy with me on this journey for DC statehood. We can certainly accomplish this together!
