What does a shadow senator DO? They advocate for DC’s rights and promote DC statehood in Congress.
Why have I never heard from our shadow senators? This is an unpaid role with little formal authority. But they do have a voice, and a platform, on the Hill and with City Council. So it’s important that we make the most of the platforms that we have, by using them as strategically as possible, until we become the 51st state.
Is statehood even realistic? All we need is a vote of Congress to shrink the size of the federal city and have our residential and commercial areas become the 51st state. We do NOT need a Constitutional amendment. So YES it is eminently possible.
